As part of my succession planning and my dedication to continuing our family legacy, I felt compelled to prepare myself for the challenges that lie ahead in the business world, especially within the vibrant landscape of China\u2019s market. I was thrilled to discover the unique Doing Business in China (DBIC) program at Peking University. This program stood out to me as it offers an opportunity to expand my perspective and develop a global mindset\u2014an essential asset for navigating contemporary business challenges in China. With Peking University being a prestigious institution where both my parents studied at the Guanghua School of Management, I felt a special connection. Having access to exceptional educational resources in both Singapore and China, I eagerly anticipated learning from renowned faculty members. The immersive learning experiences and international networking possibilities highlighted in the program\u2019s design, particularly with visits to three cities, fueled my excitement. Thus, I applied to the DBIC exchange program in June, ready to commit wholeheartedly to this enriching journey, supported by my family.<\/p>\n

The DBIC program aims to prepare students for future success by deepening their understanding of China\u2019s economic landscape, market dynamics, and evolving business practices. All five professors involved have gained international education and bring a wealth of global research and professional experience to the course. This exchange presents an exceptional opportunity to connect with talented peers from top business schools worldwide, all seeking to elevate their educational journeys. Furthermore, this summer exchange is equivalent to 4 academic credits, which can be applied toward fulfilling elective requirements in the NUS EMBA program.<\/p>\n

Over the span of two weeks, we explored three cities\u2014Beijing, Xi’an, and Shanghai\u2014while touring five innovative companies: Pop Mart, Canva, LONGi, Sensetime, and NIO. We engaged in stimulating discussions led by influential scholars across different sectors, and we had the chance to immerse ourselves in China\u2019s rich culture and history. Our itinerary included visits to the Palace Museum and the Great Wall in Beijing, a tour of the Terracotta Warriors accompanied by a traditional Qin Dynasty banquet in Xi\u2019an, and a breathtaking night cruise on the Huangpu River in Shanghai. These thoughtfully organized lectures and enrichment activities significantly deepened our understanding of the Chinese economy and its business practices.<\/p>\n

Throughout our two-week journey, we gained profound insights into China’s evolving economy, the unique elements of its business environment, and the significant challenges it faces in economic development. The lectures, live discussions, and interactions with classmates deepened my knowledge of topics like China\u2019s digital economy and business model innovation, alongside an exploration of Chinese economic reforms, politics, and growth trends in dynamic environments. The company visits facilitated invaluable interactions with entrepreneurs and business leaders, offering us firsthand insights into the corporate landscape. Successfully, we left this experience not only with enhanced knowledge but with lasting international friendships.<\/p>\n

My two-week journey with the Guanghua School of Management at Peking University was nothing short of extraordinary! Did you know that the Doing Business in China (DBIC) program boasts a rich history of nearly 20 years? It has hosted 87 cohorts, featuring approximately 3,500 students from over 130 universities worldwide. As part of the global exchange initiative associated with the UCLA-NUS EMBA, five NUS MBA student representatives joined the program this year. I highly encourage prospective students from both MBA and EMBA programs to consider participating in the DBIC summer exchange as a valuable elective. This experience will not only enhance your overseas education but also help you build an impressive global network.
