Driving Strategic Success Across Borders
Marco Francisetti’s career exemplifies how strategic education and global experience can elevate professional success. As an early-stage investor and strategy expert, he has driven impactful projects across various industries. Graduating from the UCLA-NUS Executive MBA program in September 2020, he has leveraged his education to achieve significant milestones. As we celebrate our 20th anniversary, we talk to our alumni to find out his advice for potential candidates.
The Decision for an EMBA
In March 2019, Marco joined the 16th intake of the UCLA-NUS EMBA program. At that time, he was a Strategic Planning Manager at Unipol, Italy’s largest insurance company. Feeling the need for a broader perspective, he found the EMBA’s global focus and structure aligned perfectly with his career aspirations. “The EMBA structure with segments allowed me to study in many countries without living in those countries or traveling every weekend,” Marco explained.
The program profoundly impacted Marco’s career, facilitating his move from Italy to Sydney, Australia. “The knowledge and skills I gained allowed me to drive significant strategy and M&A projects at Telstra,” he shared. His strategic thinking and leadership training enabled him to execute major M&A transactions and develop industry strategies. The degree also added credibility to his profile, opening doors to angel investing and mentoring opportunities.
Shaping Leadership Skills
Marco credits the diverse cohort and global perspectives for enriching his understanding of business cultures. “The program enhanced my ability to lead cross-functional and international teams effectively,” he noted. Studying in dynamic markets like Singapore, China, India, and the USA gave him valuable insights that influenced his business approach.
“The program’s emphasis on strategic thinking, leadership, and cultural awareness has stayed with me,” Marco shared. The importance of a global mindset and a strong, diverse network continues to influence his professional and personal growth.
The Value of Alumni Connections
“The alumni network has been incredibly beneficial for me professionally,” Marco emphasized. The network allowed him to collaborate on projects, seek advice, and explore new business ventures. To maintain this network, he remains engaged with the UCLA-NUS community through various channels, including WhatsApp chats, in-person reunions, and consulting on startups and investment.
With such close connections to his peers, it is no wonder he says, “The program provides not only the knowledge and skills needed to advance your career but also a valuable network of peers and mentors. If you’re looking for a comprehensive, globally-focused education, the UCLA-NUS EMBA is an excellent choice.”
As the UCLA-NUS EMBA program celebrates its 20th anniversary, Marco is curious about how the program will adapt to a hybrid environment and the impact of AI.
“The program’s curriculum has evolved to stay relevant with current business trends, incorporating new technologies and methodologies,” he observed. Finally, he conveys his best wishes: “Happy 20th anniversary to the UCLA-NUS EMBA program! Here’s to many more years of excellence, innovation, and success. I’m proud to be part of this incredible community and look forward to witnessing its continued impact on the global business landscape”.
