Leading with Self-Awareness: Sylvia Saw Mckaige’s Journey

Sylvia Saw McKaige, an alumna of the UCLA-NUS EMBA, shares her transformative experience and the profound impact the program had on her both personally and professionally.

One key aspect of the program for Sylvia Saw Mckaige was self-discovery. “It’s important to understand yourself before assessing your ability to lead. The program helped me be more self-reflective,” she explains. This self-awareness has been crucial in her leadership roles. Another key advantage of the program is the international scope of the UCLA-NUS EMBA program. To her, “Bringing UCLA and NUS together provided a very international perspective, helping me embrace opportunities globally”. This global outlook has been instrumental in her ability to pivot and explore new business opportunities.

Sylvia’s career took a significant step forward after graduation when she was offered a role on the commercial side of the media business—an area completely new to her. The knowledge and mindset cultivated during her EMBA studies at UCLA contributed greatly to her readiness to take on this new challenge. “The subjects I studied helped me approach this role with confidence, positioning me well for success,” she notes.
